Nearly 20 years after the first of AMDA’s clinical practice guidelines was published, “CPGs” continue to be popular tools that guide quality clinical care in long-term care facilities.

Developed by multidisciplinary content experts and designed to be used by the interdisciplinary team, the CPGs are reviewed and updated frequently to ensure that they remain current, vital, and useful.

The updates address the latest clinical developments as well as other issues and initiatives. For example, a recent update of the CPG on health maintenance includes a reference to preventive services for older adults that are now covered by Medicare, under the health-reform law.

Dr. Barney Spivak, chair of the workgroup charged with updating the guideline, noted, “An additional change in the revised guideline relates to an emphasis – strengthened by evidence since the release of the original guideline – on the need to individualize clinical decision making related to preventive interventions and to ensure that such interventions are pertinent for the individual patient.”

Such detailed updates keep the guidelines current and at the cutting-edge of medicine. Users can now purchase a full set of AMDA CPGs in electronic form. You also can buy a subscription to automatically receive guideline updates. Read more about AMDA’s CPGs or order at www.amda.com/tools/guidelines.cfm.
