When Dr. James Pattee, CMD, pioneer and father of AMDA’s Core Curriculum program, passed away late last year, AMDA members were eager to honor him and share their memories of how he inspired their careers and lives. For example, AMDA President Dr. Karyn Leible, RN, CMD, recalled her first meeting with Dr. Pattee: “I met Dr. Pattee at my very first AMDA conference in San Diego in 1994. It was at the Sunday brunch. He sat down at the table I was sit- ting at and he told me about AMDA and the Core Curriculum. He was so unassuming. It was such an honor to have spent that time with him that morning and in later years as we worked on the Core revisions, Dr. Pattee joined us.”
During Long Term Care Medicine – 2012 in San Antonio, AMDA members can make a visible and lasting tribute to Dr. Pattee through the Foundation’s Wall of Caring. As the Foundation’s premier fundraising event, the wall enables AMDA members and friends to contribute to the Foundation while honoring colleagues, friends, family members, and others who inspired them and touched their lives. Wall of Caring donors can share their written tributes on a “brick” that is posted on a wall for everyone to read. The tribute is then captured electronically and published on the Foundation’s website for posterity. A tribute to Dr. Pattee at the Wall of Caring would be most appropriate, as he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Foundation and its programs.
All donations to the Wall of Caring will go to support the AMDA Foundation Futures Program, the popular event that educates young physicians about long-term care medicine and has inspired many illustrious careers. Come out to the Foundation booth in San Antonio and bring Dr. Pattee’s legacy to life.
